Master Sergeant Maybank enlisted in the United States Army in May 1997, and has served as a Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer, Team Chief, Antenna Section NCOIC, Senior Installer, High Frequency Radio Retransmit NCOIC, Joint Spectrum Manager, Operations/Logistics NCOIC, Electromagnetic Battlefield Spectrum Manager, Army Spectrum Manager, Theater Spectrum Manager, and Joint Staff J6 Spectrum Manager. He was directly responsible for designing the communications architecture for an exercise, which culminated in the successful completion of all Battalion level training events. Capt Burton has led, trained, mentored, counseled and set the example for over 1,000 Marines within the Battalion. His planning, supervision and shared knowledge enabled Marines to develop proficiency in all areas of their military occupational specialties and positioned the Battalion for success, which directly impacts the Command, Control, Communications and Computers community. Capt Burton personally supervised the communications support to 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Logistics Group and 3rd Marine Air Wing in the execution of Exercises Steel Knight 2014 and Desert Scimitar 2014, which are critical for training and preparing of deploying Marines for real-world operations. He serves as a subject matter expert in the planning and understanding of commercial and tactical communications equipment.
